In the center of Sevastopol, on the shore of Artillery Bay, is a building of Institute of biology of southern seas named after A. O. Kovalevsky of national Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. In the lower floor of the Institute is the Sevastopol marine aquarium-Museum.
This is one of the oldest aquariums in the world and the only sea aquarium in Ukraine, it was founded in 1897. The aquarium is a unique Museum that gives a glimpse into the exciting and challenging life of the Kingdom of Neptune. Currently in the Aquarium presents more than 180 species of animals: this bespozvonochnye, black sea and tropical fish, and always the mesmerizing sight of the reptiles. In the Aquarium there is an extensive collection of live tropical fish that live among the coral reefs.
